This morning as I read, I had to pause and reflect. Here is what it said.
John 2: 1-5
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine". Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come".
I stopped reading at that point, and I wrote down in my footnotes... Mary already knew who Jesus was.
The longer that I reflected on that thought, the more excited that I became to write about it today.
Think about it... Mary knew when she was visited by the angel Gabriel that God had favor on her and that she would become the mother of Jesus. It goes on to say that the Holy Spirit would come upon her. Luke 1: 26-38
Mary was the first person to receive the Holy Spirit. She carried Him within her.
She never could question again if her son was from the Lord. She was forever changed. She knew of the power that her Son would be born with.
So when Jesus shows up to this wedding feast, it is Mary's first response to bring her "problem" to Him. She knew that He could do anything. She knew of the power that He held. She never doubted in His ability to fix this.
Because of her faith (in knowing that He could fix the problem)... Jesus responded and acted.
Fast forward a few more years....
At the feet of that bloody cross her perfect Son hung from...
Why didn't Mary ask Him to come down?
